Matrix has built a powerful team of individuals each with many years of experience in his or her area of expertise. Collectively they have serviced an extremely broad range of organizations and industries—from small start-ups to some of the largest players in the world.
Senior Management Team
Martin Knutson, PresidentMartin brings over 30 years of senior management, investment, and financial services experience to Matrix. A commercial pilot since 1981, Martin has dealt with the Canadian and international aviation as a client, owner, and supplier of aircraft.
Thanks to his extensive knowledge, and his participation in the business sector of the Canadian North, Martin was a driving force in developing Nunasi Helicopters into one of the premier helicopter suppliers in the Canadian Arctic.
Mike Kenney, Chief Operating Officer (COO)Mike brings a unique blend of logistics, sales, marketing, and customer service skills to Matrix. Having developed and managed logistical solutions for a broad range of international clients, and having a unique specialization on the Canadian North, particularly the Arctic, Mike provides Matrix clients with a wealth of experience and a high level of customer service.
Sam Ritchie, Financial ControllerSam has over 10 years of international accounting experience, with public and private companies in the mining, technology, and manufacturing industries. In addition to accounting, he has audit and taxation services, and is experienced in complex debt and equity financing transactions, business combinations and Initial public offerings.
He has expertise in ASPE, US GAAP, and IFRS and regularly presents on financial reporting matters.
Jolie McMullan, Business Development ManagerJolie brings over 30 years of sales, management and business skills to Matrix. Jolie is very goal-oriented, and an organized team player. She has strong problem-solving and creative skills. Jolie has the ability to get on with people at all levels. Her priority is to assist Matrix to acquire new customers and sell additional products or services to existing ones. She has strong sales and negotiation techniques and has a strong attention to detail. Customer service is number one.
Jolie brings with her 14 years of sales, promotion, on-air and management skills from radio and 5 years of running a BCHL Jr. A Hockey team with her. She spends her non-Matrix time as an All Breed Professional Dog Handler since 1995.
James Carr, Helicopter Operations ManagerJames has over 20 years in the aviation business. Beginning his career as a commercial helicopter pilot, working his way up through the industry, conducting Heli-portable seismic, Heli-logging, wildfire suppression, and exploration project support. In 2011 he was appointed Operations Manager of a helicopter company in Northwest British Columbia. He oversaw up to 17 helicopters during his 7 years in this position.
This foundation provides James with the experience required to oversee Matrix Helicopter Solutions aviation programs. From project logistics, financial evaluations and safety oversight, James is experienced in all aspects of the aviation industry and sure to provide you with the information,advice and knowledge to help you complete your project safely, on time and budget.
Amber Munce, VP of Human ResourcesAmber is a creative and insightful leader dedicated to transforming people and organizations to achieve breakthroughs in culture, strategy and structure. As an experienced and driven professional with 10 years experience spanning strategic Human Resources and Talent Management, organizational development, business transformation, and organizational change enablement.
Her strengths include HR strategy, consulting and program design, organizational design and development, talent management process design, enterprise and human capital technology implementations, strategic project and program management, and development of organizational performance and employee engagement metrics.
She brings a track record of creating organizational effectiveness, positive corporate culture, and high-performance workplaces with a purpose to unleash the potential in people and teams around her by creating connection and challenging limits.
Leslie Violette, Human Resource ManagerMs. Violette has 10 years of experience as a Field Geolo- gist in Yukon, Ontario and the three Territories. Leslie possesses experience as an executive and leader in Human Resources and Operations department of the customer service industry supporting 300 employees for over 10 years.
As the Human Resources Manager, Ms. Violette ensures that world class human resources consultancy and practices are utilized to provide exceptional staff to our client’s in the natural resource and construction sectors across Canada’s north.
Stephan Prigione, Director of OperationsStephan Prigione has 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and is currently the Force Protection Officer for Joint Task Force Pacific (JTFP) Headquarters located in Victoria, British Columbia. He is the chief planner for JTFP’s response to a catastrophic earthquake in British Columbia and chairs the Regional Force Protection and Security Working Group, responsible for the safety and protection of 4500 soldiers in British Columbia.
Mr. Prigione has invested in himself, by attending Royal Roads University, to earn his MBA (June 18).
Mr. Prigione began his career in 1993 as an Armoured Crewman with the Kings Own Calgary Regiment. After a short period, transferred to the Regular Force and was subsequently posted to the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Petawawa, Ontario. While there, he completed a Peacekeeping tour to the former Yugoslavia and participated in major domestic operations such as the “Flood of the Century” in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Andrew Gallant, Yellowknife Operations ManagerDuring Andrew’s time with Matrix he has planned and completed a variety of challenging projects including remote exploration camps, bulk fuel moves, cleanup of abandoned northern sites as well as managing Matrix’s fleet of Bombardier Snowcats.
Extensive skills in mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and logistics make Andrew the perfect complement to lead any of our challenging projects throughout Canada.
Andrew is integral to the planning for camps and leads the build operations. Projects successfully undertaken and completed on schedule range from small very portable camps and remediation to large scale (1000 person camp) operations. Prior to joining Matrix, Andrew gained valuable experience working for such companies as RTL Services, Gillespie Pontiac and Newform Metal.
Ron Corey, Northern Operations ManagerRon has over 14 years’ hands on experience in all phases of northern exploration camp management ranging from planning, construction, maintenance and on-going operations. Ron first worked for Matrix from 2004 to 2008. He then had unique opportunities to enhance his management experience in the mining industry with positions at Diavik Diamond Mines and as Operations Manager with Peregrine Diamonds. Ron has now returned to Matrix with his enhanced management and mining experience.
Ron’s has wide-ranging experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanics, fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft loading/unloading, heavy equipment operation, troubleshooting and purchasing. His vast Arctic experience gives him the ability to not only manage his teams, but to roll up his sleeves and get the job done, no matter what challenges faced north of 60.
Crystal Daschuk, Operations & Special Projects CoordinatorCrystal has over 20 years of experience in Aviation, Construction, Project Management and Aboriginal Business. In the field, Crystal coordinates the logistics and resources for projects while managing the day to day requests of clients to ensure efficiency and timelines of client projects are met.
Crystal serves as a liaison between the clients at site and the team at Matrix to ensure projects move forward successfully and efficiently through diligent administration, communication, problem solving, trouble shooting and organization.
As one of the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada (Metis/Cree/Sioux), Crystal combines traditional knowledge with industry experience to ensure both client and corporate objectives are met and exceeded.
